Fall Sleepover at BC Guide House in North Vancouver

On Saturday October 19, the 9th Vancouver Pathfinders will be heading to North Vancouver for a sleepover at the BC Guide House!

This adventure will involve taking transit from East Vancouver to North Vancouver to get to the Guide House (SkyTrain, Sea Bus and walking from the station). We will explore Lonsdale Quay and Shipbuilders Plaza and visit a local polling station as October 19 is the provincial election. We’ll go grocery shopping, make dinner, play games and make crafts. We may also visit the Polygon Gallery in Shipbuilders Plaza.

More information and forms are below, and in the Calendar event for October 19, and on the Forms page. Forms and payment of $30 are due to a Unit Guider by October 6th. Speak with Christa if you’d like to use some Cookie Cash towards this awesome event!

March 29 Meeting and June camp!

This Wednesday, we are having a sports and games night at the church as part of the BC Get Active challenge! Come ready to be outside the whole time – including wearing a warm jacket, toque, warm socks, appropriate shoes for movement etc. Please also bring any sports or games equipment you’d like to play with, such as soccer or basketballs, frisbees, hackysacks, etc!

Also, forms for June camp at Bowker Hall in Victoria are ready for download! We are heading to Victoria from June 16-18, and will be having lots of fun cooking, sight seeing, going to local attractions, and generally getting to know the city and a new GGC facility! Forms are due April 19, and camp costs $135 to attend.

Remember, you can use cookie cash towards camp, and a portion of each case you sell on your own goes towards your personal fundraising goals, so reach out to Christa before Wednesday night’s meeting if you’d like another case (or more!) to sell as part of this cookie campaign! We still have a few cases of cookies left!

Last meeting before Spring Break!

We’ve got our last meeting before Spring Break this Wednesday March 8th!

3rd years will be finalizing a couple of important details for camp in June. We’ll also be working on the WAGGGS Thinking Day challenge, which has a cool crest, so you won’t want to miss this one!

If you didn’t get cookies on Saturday, or would like more, you can pick them up tonight.

If you still have bottles to return for the CWFF bottle drive fundraiser for Thinking Day, you can bring them tonight. Reminder to bring them rinsed and dry, in clear plastic bags!

Cookie Pick Up this Saturday

Pick up your cookies this Saturday March 4 between 2 and 3 pm and 505 E 46th Ave (Martin Luther Church). Look for Karla’s blue Mitsubishi Lancer parked out on the street. If you can’t find Karla or are running late, please text her (phone number sent via email).

Girls should sell a min. of 2 cases of cookies, though you’re welcome to take more if you like! Speak with Karla on site.

You can start selling right away! Cookies are now $6/box, and proceeds from the cases you sell on your own go towards your own “cookie cash” fundraising goals, like camp, outings, and special events!

March 1 Meeting Update – Important!

We are going ahead tonight with S’s girl-led meeting, which involves baking, vision boarding, and fun at the church! Remember to bring your bottles for the bottle drive in clear plastic bags.

Also, spring cookies are being delivered this Saturday! We’re coordinating a cookie pick up for Pathfinders to come get their min. 2 cases at 3 pm on Saturday at a location near E 46th and Fraser (address TBC). Thank you all in advance for coming to pick up your cookies on Saturday afternoon, as it’ll save the Guiders a lot of hauling, packing, organizing and stacking in the snow!’

You can start selling cookies as soon as you pick them up. New for this season is that cookies are now $6 per box or $72 per case.

Feb 22 – Thinking Day Outing!

Every year on February 22, Girl Guides celebrate World Thinking Day, a day of international friendship. It is an opportunity to speak out on issues that affect girls and young women, celebrate the founding of Girl Guides, and be connected to the 10 million members around the world who are part of the Guiding movement.

Here in British Columbia, we have thousands of girls and women who are members of Girl Guides of Canada. We have Girl Guide programs in nearly every community in BC and our girls/volunteers light up their communities year-round through leadership, community service, and efforts to create a better world, by girls.

This Wednesday, we’re heading downtown to check out some Guiding Lights Across BC as part of BC’s Thinking Day celebrations with the 1st Rangers, doing some challenges to earn the WAGGGS Thinking Day challenge crest, and enjoying a treat together! #ShineYourGuidingLights

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Come in uniform – a scarf is a great option, if you have one.
  • Come dressed for the weather, including wearing a toque!
  • Bring a headlamp, lantern, or other cool blue celebratory / festive item!
  • Meet at 29th Ave Skytrain Station at 6:45 pm. Pick up at 8:30 pm at the same spot.
  • Bring your Compass Card!

As a reminder, we’re each collecting returnable bottles and cans as part of the WAGGGS Canadian World Friendship Fund Fundraiser. Keep saving up those bottles, and plan to bring them with you to the meetings on March 1 or March 8. Remember, the bottles should be clean/rinsed, and stored in a clear plastic bag (like the ones we sent home with you in January for the bottle drive). Speak with a Guider if you have any questions about the bottle drive, or how to return your bottles.

Lastly, remember that we have started in on our bottle drive for the Canadian World Friendship Fund service project! Please start collecting returnable cans and bottles in the clear plastic garbage bags we sent home at the January 11 meeting, and plan to bring them back to our meeting on March 1. Bottles need to be dropped off to the bottle depot in clear plastic bags, so if you have extra bottles to return, please plan to pack them in clear plastic for easy return. Thanks in advance!
