February 21 – Downtown walk

February 22 is World Thinking Day – a day to celebrate the global Guiding movement. To mark the occasion, we will be headed downtown to do a walk with a Guide unit. We will be a day early to see the buildings lit up in blue, but we will bring our own lights in the form of the lanterns we made this week. Here are the details:

Drop Off: 6:30pm at 29th Avenue Station. Note there are a few entrances to the station. Please meet at the entrance closest to 29th Ave and Atlin Street (NOT the entrance next to the park). If you can’t find us, text Amanda.

Pick up: 8pm at 29th Avenue Station.

Pathfinders should bring the lantern that we made this week and a Compass Card if they are over the age of 12. Pathfinders should be dressed to be outside for over an hour. This includes hats, gloves, warm socks, warm layers, and raingear if it rains. And if they have a Pathfinder scarf, that should be worn over their jacket.

Bottle Drive for the CWFF

Thank you for bringing in your returnables last week!

We are using this bottle drive to raise funds for the Canadian World Friendship Fund (CWFF) – and fund that helps support opportunities of members to travel. It is one of our service projects for the year.

If you weren’t able to bring in your returnables last week please drop them off at any Return-It Express locations using the account Girl Guides of Canada Southridge District account information listed below.

To use the system:
·      Place your refundables into a quick-tie large clear plastic bag
·      Take to Return-it Express depot print labels & place one label on each bag so it’s visible.
·      To print labels, enter phone number 604-435-2542 on the keyboard at the depot; it prints up to 12 labels at a time.
·      Put your bag in the bin/location reserved for the Express program (ask employee).

If you do this, please let Christa know what date you dropped off the bags and how many, so she can connect with the District to get the funds moved over to the CWFF.

Thank you!

Money Sense + Bottle Drive

At this week’s meeting we will be talking about ‘Money Sense’! Our activities will focus on building our financial literacy skills.

As a reminder, we are currently conducting a bottle drive. Pathfinders are encouraged to bring clean, refundable cans and bottles in clear plastic bags to either this meeting (February 7) or next week’s meeting (February 14).
