Jan 20 Meeting

We’re looking forward to seeing you tonight!

Tonight, we’re doing a STEM workshop hosted by The Venture Academy at McMaster University, where we’ll learn about how engineers clean oil spills in the 21st Century! This project will focus on United Nations Goal 14, Life Below Water, and participants will explore how engineers can develop innovative ways to combat marine pollution. The project will involve coding a Micro:Bit with an algorithm that an autonomous boat could use to clean oil spills. Plus, it features a really cool badge!

The Venture Academy recommends doing this workshop on a computer or laptop (not a phone or iPad!!) as it involved coding, so please log on from a computer tonight, if you’re able to.

Check out the Calendar booking for the Zoom link, and for more info.

Also, don’t forget to register for the AdventureSmart Survive Outside “virtual outing” (aka webinar) we’re doing on February 2!

Lastly, we’ll have information about additional cookies, and cookie money deadlines, at tonight’s meeting, so tune in for more information!

Welcome to 2021!

Happy New Year!

We’re looking forward to seeing you all for our first meeting of the year tomorrow night. At tomorrow’s meeting, we’re going to be checking in on the start of the year, and planning some fun activities for the winter and spring season. Bring some ideas about online physical activities,

Also, on February 3rd, we’re doing a “virtual outing” to take part in the AdventureSmart “Survive Outside” webinar. You need to sign up for this webinar in advance, so please register online for this workshop as soon as possible. It’s free, and open to all.

Check out the Calendar bookings for Zoom meeting links and information about our meeting plans for the coming months!

Dec 16 Meeting – Holiday Hang Out & Last Meeting of 2020

We’ve got a fun craft to do tonight, followed by some games and an opportunity to reflect on the year!

For the craft, you will need the following materials:

  • the Penguin bag and remaining envelope that we dropped off to you on November 11
  • pair of scissors
  • piece of cardboard about the size of a sheet of letter paper (corrugated cardboard, like that used for a shipping box, or stiff flat cardboard, like that used for a cereal box, will work)
  • sewing needle
  • thread (a darker colour would work well, but any colour will do)

For the game, you’ll need a piece of paper and a pencil.

See you at 6:45 pm!! The Zoom link is in the Calendar invite.

Nov/Dec Meetings and COOKIES!

Information about Upcoming Meetings

Given today’s public health announcements, we’re going to continue meeting virtually for the remainder of our meetings in 2020. We know it’s disappointing to not see each other in person, but now more than ever, we need to take care of ourselves and our communities – in the true Guiding spirit!

The good news is that we have lots of fun and interesting activities planned for our Pathfinder meetings. Check out the Calendar bookings, which have been updated (now all with Zoom links – sorry about the mix-up for the meeting on November 18!).

On November 25, we’re doing a meeting all about our wellness and resilience. We know that tips and tricks for being well, especially while we’re spending so much time being distant from our friends and family, is so important. You’ll need the big brown envelope you got in your package on November 11 for this meeting.

Important Information about Cookies!

If you’re all done selling your cookies and are ready to return your cookie money, you can pay for them online! Please see the email that Christa sent you on November 3 for more information about online payments.

We also have four cases of cookies left, if anyone would like more cookies to sell! Get in touch with Karla to make arrangements for a COVID-safe pick up or drop off.

Craft kits and plans for today!

Craft kits are being delivered today between 10 and 11:30 am! A few of you have asked for cases of cookies, so those will be delivered as well. If you’d like more cookies but haven’t let me know, please text me before 9:15 am and we can arrange to drop some off in our rounds.

In the kit, you’ll find the materials for today’s activity, plus two other envelopes and a red bag with a winter penguin on it. The envelopes and the penguin bag are for future meetings, so set those aside.

In preparation for our 1 pm CRAFTernoon, follow the instructions for step 1 on the String Art activity, which explain how to use the two strips of sandpaper included in the package to sand the rough edges of your piece of wood. This is a great activity to do outside! Make sure you’re wearing a mask for this activity, to protect yourself from breathing in the sawdust!

Never used sand paper before? Check out this quick and handy video from Lowe’s.

Be sure to eat some lunch before we meet at 1 pm. You’ll also want to have a healthy snack handy. We’ll take a break and there is a little treat in your craft kit, but you’ll probably want some other snacks and a bottle of water to enjoy throughout the afternoon.

The Zoom meeting information is in the Calendar invite, and the materials you’ll need to do today’s craft are listed below. See you at 1 pm!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Day Camp Postponed, CRAFTernoon this Wednesday

Unfortunately, due to the public health order that restricts gathering in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley until November 23, our Day Camp at Muskrat Meadows will need to be postponed.

We’re going to have a virtual hang out and crafty afternoon session on Zoom on Wednesday afternoon from 1 – 4 pm instead. We’ve got an awesome craft to do, and have some other fun things in store for our time together.  Check out the meeting invite in the Calendar for more information, and for the Zoom link.

We’ll be delivering packages of materials for CRAFTernoon on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. In advance, Pathfinders, please fill out this short optional survey by 7 pm on Monday night to help us organize materials.

You’ll need a few things from home, including:

  • access to Zoom, including with camera if possible
  • hammer
  • pair of scissors
  • masking, scotch or painter’s tape
  • liquid glue – white glue, super glue, or wood glue would work

Cookies are coming!

Cookies are available for pick up starting November 6. Please connect with Karla to make arrangements to pick up your cookies, as we won’t be able to bring many cases to Day Camp, and are having an online meeting on November 18.

Ready to start selling? Here are some important safety tips for selling cookies during COVID-19. Remember, we are in Outdoor 1, so you can only sell cookies online, door-to-door and to friends and family that are in your bubble this campaign.
