Tonight: Camp debrief, games and a craft

We will be meeting in our regular location this evening, November 8, starting at 6:45pm.

On the agenda:

  • Camp debrief – we will spend some time debriefing what we loved at camp, what we would change, what we may want to try next time. We will touch base on everything from hosting a joint camp to the kit list.
  • Craft – we have a craft that we didn’t bring to camp that we will spend some time doing this evening
  • Games – there is always time for games! We will play a few this evening.

Forms for camp

On November 3-5, the 9th Vancouver Pathfinders are heading to camp with the 1st Vancouver Rangers!

At this cozy camp, we will stay in cabins at Kwi Kia, make crafts, have campfires, explore the forrest and oceanfront, play games, cook delicious things, and generally have fun.

We will meet at the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal at 4:45pm, then take the 5:30 ferry to the Sunshine Coast. From there we will take the bus to Camp Olive. Pathfinders will need to pack so they can easily carry their gear from the ferry, to the bus and then walk it in to our campsite. Pick up will be at the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal at 1:45pm on Sunday, November 5th.

Forms and a kit list can be found here: https://9thvancouverpathfinders.ca/forms/

Completed forms and payment are due on October 18.

If you have any questions, reach out to a Guider.

First meeting of the Guiding year!

On Wednesday, September 13 we will be having our first Pathfinder meeting of the Guiding year. We will meet from 6:45-8:30pm in the basement of 2444 E 41st Ave (St Thomas Anglican Church, enter through the side door off of St Margarets street).

We are asking grown ups to stay for the 15 minutes of the meeting to meet the Guiders (we have a new one!), collect cookies to sell (the chocolate mint Girl Guide cookie season is here), and hear announcements. This is also a chance to ask questions of the Guiders.

The rest of the meeting will be spent getting to know the people in our unit. Pathfinders, please bring two objects to the meeting – something old and something new. These could be objects connected to our families, culture, favourite activities or hobbies. We will use these objects to introduce ourselves.

Looking forward to the welcoming new members and welcoming back our returning Pathfinders!

Meeting at Queen E Park

Our meeting this week will be at Queen Elizabeth Park. This will be our final meeting of the year. There will be a scavenger hunt and a bit of a ceremony.

We are also going to meet a bit earlier – 6:15 – 8:00pm – so we can hopefully have a visit with a special guest.

Drop off and pick up will be by at the top of the hill, by the water fountain, close to the parking lot.

Camp Skills at Trout Lake

On Wednesday, June 7 we will be brushing up on our camp skills at Trout Lake.

We will meet at 6:45 just outside the concession stand at the south end of the lake.

See you there!

Kit list for camp

NOTE – the kit list has been updated to include dinner on Friday night. We will be eating on the ferry so please bring dinner or money to buy dinner.

Our trip to Victoria is two weeks away! Here is the kit list of what you will need to bring with you on our trip:

To get to the Guide House we are staying at we will take a SkyTrain, bus, ferry, two buses, and will also be walking a bit. You will need to carry all of your gear. This is best done with a backpack (like a hiking backpack). If you would like to borrow a backpack from District, please let Amanda know ASAP!

At the last meeting Christa demonstrated the magic of compression sacks and how they can can be used to shrink the amount of space your sleeping bag takes up. They are space savers!

If you are interested in getting one, you can find them at MEC, Canadian Tire, VPO, and even Amazon. Make sure the size you are getting is big enough for your sleeping bag.
