Oct 6th Meeting – In Person @ Trout Lake

On Wednesday October 6, we are meeting in person at Trout Lake to do some activities in preparation for our enrolment ceremony later this fall, and play some games.

We’ll meet at the south end of the park near the Concession Stand – you can enter the Parking Lot off of 19th Ave near Lakewood.

It will be dark for most of the meeting time, so please keep the following in mind:

  • Please warm clothing appropriate for the weather, including waterproof shoes, long pants, and a toque
  • Wear a rain jacket, even if it’s not raining cats and dogs
  • bring a head lamp as it will be dark
  • There are washrooms in the park, but they close at dusk so please make sure to use the washroom before you come to Pathfinders!

Also, please get in touch with Karla and Christa if you’d like any (more) cookies to sell, as we have more cookies for the unit and can bring them to the meeting on Wednesday night!

September 29 Meeting

On Wednesday September 29th, we’re meeting online on Zoom to plan our amazing Pathfinder year! The Zoom meeting info and link is in the event posting in the Pathfinder Calendar. Click for details!

Be prepared to bring some great ideas and goals for discussion, and to have your camera on for the meeting, so we can make sure we’re getting the most of our time together.

Also, if you haven’t received your fall cookies yet, or would like more cookies to sell, please email Karla for more information on how you can pick some cookies up in East Van before our next in-person meeting on October 6.

Tonight’s meeting

We are meeting in person tonight for some fun and games, and to get to know each other as we kick off the Guiding year. We’ll meet at St Thomas Anglican, on the east side of the church (St Margaret’s St side). Adults, please plan to stay for the first ~15 minutes of the meeting so we can meet you, introduce ourselves, and share some important updates about the Guiding year.

Please remember to wear a mask and come dressed for the weather. It will be dark by the end of the meeting, so we’d encourage you to bring a flashlight or head lamp if you have one.

Please remember to do the COVID-19 self assessment prior to coming to Pathfinders, and please stay home if you’re feeling unwell.

Lastly, we will be handing out cookies tonight so adults, please plan to arrive by 8:15 pm so we can hand out cookies to take home to start selling!

First meeting of the year!

Welcome (back) to the 9th Pathfinders!

Our first meeting of the year is going to be Wednesday September 22. Stay tuned and check your emails for more information about starting the Pathfinder year, including important health and safety, unit admin, and program updates to come!

Last meeting of the year!

It is the final meeting of the year! At this meeting we will go geocaching in Stanley Park, get snacks from the concession stand at Second Beach, and have our closing ceremony. 

It is going to be hot so please dress for the weather and be sun smart. 

Things to bring:

  • mask, hand sanitizer 
  • bottle of water
  • hat, sunglasses
  • wear sunscreen 
  • your favourite Guiding memory from the year

The unit will cover the cost of the snack. 
We will meet at 6:45 at the Second Beach concession stand outside the washrooms

IN PERSON: Camp Skills

Tonight we have a guest coming to help us practice our camp skills including:

1. Making gadgets out of rope and sticks

2. Making shelters out of tarps

3. Using camping stoves

Please meet at the Trout Lake South Side Parking Lot (right by the Concession) at 6:45. 
Please bring:

1. Weather appropriate clothing

2. hand sanitizer and mask

3. a reusable travel mug for a warm treat

4. Optional – if you have some rope or twine for practicing tying knots feel free to bring it. 

Pick up will be at the Trout Lake South Side Parking Area at 8:30. See you there!

IN PERSON: Shoreline Clean-up

Today we’re going to do a community service project by cleaning up trash at Larry Young Park and along the Local Heros Pathway. Please find more information here:http://shorelinecleanup.ca/cleanups/1dkwd

Drop off and Pick up are at Larry Young Park. The address is 1736 E 11th Ave and there is a parking lot behind the ICBC building where parents can drop off and pick up. This is a small park under the skytrain line just east of Commercial Drive. Please drop off at 6:45 and pick up at 8:30. 
Please bring:

1. Clothing and shoes appropriate for the weather, including your uniform/scarf

2. Mask and hand sanitizer

3. One garbage bag

4. Set of metal tongs (like BBQ tongs)

5. Rubber or silicone gloves (like old yellow kitchen gloves or medical gloves)

We will bring extras if you don’t have tongs or gloves. 

IN PERSON: May 19 Meeting – Riverfront walk

Tonight we will explore the trail along the shore of the Fraser River. This trail travels through natural areas, parks and along boardwalks. We will keep our eyes open for birds, seals, log booms and tug boats. 
Dress for the weather and bring along water.
We will meet in the parking lot at Gladstone Riverside Park (2500 East Kent Avenue S) at 6:45. Pick up will be at the same location at 8:30.
