We’re doing an amazing kayaking training course with EcoMarine Adventures!

Over this two-day course, Pathfinders will learn the essential kayaking skills needed for a great water-sport adventure. On the water we focus on skills such as boat handling, launching, landing and balancing. Once comfortable in the kayak you will learn how to safely exit your kayak in the event of a capsize, how to get back in with the help of a partner and how to get back in on your own. Pathfinders will earn the Paddle Canada Basic Kayak certification upon completion.

The course is 9:00 am – 2:30 pm each day, so we’ll meet at the beach at 8:30 am. Bring a lunch and lots of water with you each day. There is secure storage and coin operated showers at the Jericho Sailing Centre. See the attached forms for more information.

EcoMarine says… What to bring:

• Clothing material should ideally be quick drying synthetic, nylon or wool (no cotton).
• Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in.
• Wear shorts or capris as you may get wet up to your knees launcing the kayak.
• For Paddle Canada programs please bring a bathing suit for under a wetsuit & towel.
• Programs run rain or shine so please bring sweater, jacket or rain jacket.
• A full change of clothes. Our goal is to keep you dry but spills do happen on occasion.
• Comfortable shoes for in the kayak. Your shoes may get wet. Sport sandals, booties or running shoes work best.
• Water bottle.
• Sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses with secured neck string (all available to purchase before program)

Please complete the forms below and return with payment to Unit Guider no later than May 2, 2018.  Payment can be made in two instalments – $50 payable May 2, and $30 payable May 30 (this will give Pathfinders a chance to use their Spring cookie cash, too!).

By completing this course, Pathfinders will complete the following modules: Out on the Trails #3 (kayak training), Outdoor Know How #8 (water safety), and Outdoor Know How #9 (weather forecasting).
