DESCRIPTION:For our last get-together of 2021\, we’re heading to Hillcrest Community Centre (4575 Clancy Loranger Way) for a public skate! \nWe’ll meet just outside the community centre main door (west side of the building\, next to the round-about\, where you’d enter the pool and rink) at 5:45 pm\, in order to get checked in for the 6 pm public skate time. Pick up from the same location at 7:30 pm.There is no cost to attend\, but there are some important things to note – read on for more info! \nWhat to know and bring: \n\nVaccine passports are mandatory for everyone 12 years and older\, so please bring your vaccine passport with you! Youth 12 – 18 are not required to have government ID to go with the passport.\nIf you have your own skates and helmet\, please bring them. If you don’t have skates\, we’ll rent them for you.\nLikewise\, if you have Park Board monthly flexi-pass\, please bring it with you. Otherwise\, we’ll pay for your admission.\nWear warm and comfortable clothing\, including gloves\, scarf etc. as it’s cool in the rink!\nBring a water bottle\, but leave valuables etc. at home.\n\nText Karla if you have any questions prior to meeting. The waiver outlines the risks involved with learning self-defense and other important details.\n2) Bring: Participants are to bring a blanket/yoga mat\, wear comfortable clothing and have some water. \n3) What to expect: The session will begin with a discussion time around the topics of safety\, boundaries and consent and then transition into learning some jiu-jitsu based self-defense techniques.\nArise’s mission is to foster inner confidence\, resiliency and awareness in young people\, through fun\, engaging and active workshops.\nArise Programs seeks to teach children and youth that they are worthy of being safe and respected.  \nTheir whole-being approach brings together a unique combination of physical literacy and social-emotional learning. Equipping participants with the physical\, emotional and intellectual skills essential to the development of self-confidence\, awareness and character. \nThrough self-defense\, mindfulness\, role-play games and artful discussion activities\, this session will focus on the exploration of movement\, body autonomy\, self-confidence and social awareness. \nPart 1) Mental Self-Defense: Discussion-based activity addressing 1 or 2 concepts of personal safety\, for example\, non-verbal communication\, consent/boundaries or emotional regulation. During this time\, we may talk and draw\, making mental and emotional connections to important topics. \nPart 2) Physical Self-Defense: We’ll learn simple self-defense techniques that they can try at home solo or with a parent or sibling. These techniques can be implemented straight away and don’t involve any fighting or aggression\, but rather reinforces individuals’ body autonomy and their right to say no.

DESCRIPTION:We’re heading to Stanley Park for our springtime service project\, which will be a fun and interactive opportunity to support ecological resilience in Stanley Park! \nThe Stanley Park Ecology Society will be leading us in a private stewardship event where we will learn about invasive species and the local ecology of Stanley Park.  We will be active environmental stewards as we work to remove invasive species and create valuable habitat for native wildlife. \nWhen:  Saturday\, May 4th from 10:00am to 1:00pm – please arrive on time or a few minutes early! \nWhere:  Nature House on Lost Lagoon – 712 Lost Lagoon Path\, Stanley Park (Please note that parking is limited in this area\, so ensure you leave yourself enough time to find parking and walk to the Nature House). \nWhat to wear:  Weather appropriate clothing\, solid outdoor footwear\, and long sleeves/pants (Many invasive species have thorns\, and some people experience a mild reaction to species such as English ivy). \nWhat to bring:  Water and a light snack in a small backpack.  Stanley Park Ecology Society will provide us with any tools or equipment needed for the event. \nForms:  SG1 / SG2 – due no later than Wednesday\, May 1st.
